So how f---ed up has today been. Its the second of the month, and i still didn't have my delivery of Abita for the beer of the month. The driver rolls in with half the selection of what I wanted to offer, and i found out pretty much thru cold calling Central Market that HEB bought out the whole state already, thus the supply for me was not available. After some further calling and dealing with one beer vendor named T, yet another vendor named K swoops in and informs me that the highway billboard sign above the store (which has been there FOREVER) has an advertisement for Guinness.
Alors, to make a really long story short, as a sign from literally above, I took it to mean that Guinness should be the Beer of the Month. SO, we closed a deal with the last beer vendor K who peddles that perfect Irish brew to offer the draught, extra stout as well as its sibling the Harp Lager at an UNHEARD of $5.99 per six pack! All this under the gun of one vendor and the other vying of attention.
I don't think my details above have nearly enough conveyed my angst over how frustrating this whole pickle was, thankfully I've had healthy pours of quality vodka and a STUNNING cognac called Navan made with Malagasy vanilla by the Grand Marnier house of spirits. OH SO YUMMY, the folks (my bro Rohit) has decided to make a tasting of it. It has an amazing oily viscosity and a floral vanilla tinge that smokes all the way down.
I've also enjoy four various wines provided by the always welcome and lovely L:
Domaine de Vipur Minervois 1999: smokey nose with an awesome density of bell peppers and a dry earthy finish, an excellent accompaniment to rich thick sauces and BBQ.
Azagador La Mancha Cosecha 2002 (unfiltered): jams of dark berries with a dense and rich earthiness and bright finish, a yummy something-something that makes it good for the deal.
Tumara PK Markel Pinotage 2001: an amazingly svelte palate of spicy fruits and an incredible smokey finish that hints with BBQ and mushrooms.
Laurel Glen Sonoma Cab 2001: a rich smokey nose with a dense palate of plum extract and a deep dark luscious and lingering finish of earthiness and tannins. This has the something-something the French tend to call je n'ai sais qua, and "I don't know what" that means (snark).
thats it for now,
