I just had a wonderful tasting this morning with our ever gracious and considerate rep Laura for the vineyard in subject. The winemaker for Eberle established the region in Paso Robles, and we are fortunate to have such high quality at such a great rate on the shelf. Details below and enjoy when its delivered next week:
Viognier 2003: an excellent floral nose and supple texture of melons and and lemony acidic finish, very well balanced and pleasing with a lingering hint of oak
Chardonnay 2003 (unoaked): the nose jumps out with tropical varieties and the buttery texture hints with vanilla and easy tannins thru the finish, a wonderful deal of character all the way
Zinfandel 2002: Super dense nose of ripe fruits of blue/blackberries and a rich viscous palate of jams and peppers with a wonderful dry finish the escalates this quaff to the higher dimensions of enjoyment. I can't wait to offer this on my shelf.
Syrah 2002: the old vines of this stem from the 1970s and produce a rich Northern Rhone style quaff with a bright noe and dense dry palate of cherries and earthy tannins. This is an excellent wine to savor with rich meats and cheeses.
Cabernet Sauvignon Vineyard Selection 2001: a mixed bag of pure 100% cabernet sauvignon from differing locations in Paso Robles, this quaff has a smokey nose and supple texture of plums and earthiness on the palate with hints of tobacco in the finish. It could sit for a couple years easily and become bigger and more full mouth, it could also dive into a well endowed carafe to open it up for awhile to enjoy right away; either way its a deal when its on the shelf coming in under $20, alot of complexity for the rate.
Cabernet Sauvignon 2001: this is the big brother of the Cab listed above, and it delivers a tremendous amount. A wonderful nose of rich wet soil leads to an intense palate of dark cherries and full mouth feel of mushrooms, the esy finish surprises you as the complexity and dimensions keep spreading, a testament to the age of the vines and the maturity of the maker. Quite extraordinary.
Muscat Cannelli 2004: there is nothing wrong with this sticky, with its wonderful nose of orange peel and floral accents (stargazers come to mind) and the rich viscous palate of buttery citrus melts into an easy lingering finish. Excellent.
